A Black Letter Day?

Filed under: Secured Loans Industry, Payment Protection (PPI), Exclude Chit Chat — The Introducer at 5:45 pm on Monday, June 19, 2006

I notice the Post Office are introducing low cost Payment Protection Insurance (PPI). I know other specialist insurance providers do low cost PPI, like Paymentcare and other primarily Internet based ones, but the problem with the Post Office doing it, is that it will attract a lot more publicity.

They will also get some positive press coverage from also providing cover for bad-backs and stress related disorders, which standard Secured Loans PPI don’t cover.

Although this is not a pivotal announcement for the Secured Loans market, it could cause more snow to gather on the ball launched by the investigation into PPI by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).

Debtmatters buys Loanmakers

Filed under: Secured Loans Industry, Exclude Chit Chat — The Introducer at 7:53 am on Monday, June 19, 2006

I find it quite interesting that at the same time it announced it’s maiden results Debtmatters, the listed IVA specialist, announced the acquisition of Loanmakers for an initial consideration of £10m.

The Co Founders of Loanmakers will both stay on at the larger organisation in the hope of growing the Secured Loans division. As part of the purchase agreement, they have been given a large incentive package from Debtmatters to do this.

I just hope that one day someone comes in with a few quid to buy We Introduce You. But as it’s fun working for an on-line business , lets hope this isn’t for a while yet.

Too Many Acronyms?

Filed under: Chit Chat — The Introducer at 3:17 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2006

O.M.G, don’t we use a lot of acronyms?

The definition of an Acronym is a word formed from the initial letters of a series of words. For example, BBC is the acronym for the British Broadcasting Company)

But don’t you sometimes feel we over use them and they can lead to confusion?

A silly example, but if someone says they work for the BBC, couldn’t they also mean they worked for the Bombay Bicycle Club? Also why do we always presume that everyone knows what we’re talking about when we use an acronym.

If we get any worse, we could all end up speaking like the Two Ronnies in their famous Swedish Made Simple sketch
